Security Officer Of The Year

Security Officer of the Year Press Release

IFPO and SPS to honor Security Officer of the Year

<<Application & Nomination Form>>     <<Guidelines>>     <<Press Release>>     <<Audio Announcement>>

You’re working late one night, and the building’s fire alarm goes off. Your children are sitting in their classrooms at school when an armed stranger suddenly appears in the hall. You’re walking to your car in a mall parking lot and are accosted by a stranger who demands your car keys.

Who will be first on the scene to help in all of these scenarios? A security officer. Unavoidable response times for police and fire departments leave security officers in the position of being the first people on the scene to make split-second decisions to help you when you need it.

The International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO) is pleased to announce a new program to honor these often-overlooked members of the protection industry. In conjunction with the Security Professionals Site (SPS), IFPO is establishing an annual Security Officer of the Year award. The first winner of the honor will be announced on Nov. 15th, 2005. Nominees do not have to be members of the Foundation or SPS. Candidates for the award cannot be currently commissioned law enforcement officers because their deserving service is recognized in other forums.

Worldwide, security professionals are the first line of defense when it comes to crime, fire or accidents in airports, hospitals, schools, apartment complexes, shopping centers, and more, risking their own personal safety to ensure you are protected. All too often they are the unsung heroes of incidents that range from providing comfort to lost children to first response in disasters such as the World Trade Center attack. With this award, IFPO and SPS are taking a decisive step to gain recognition not only for the officer selected, but for the security profession as a whole.

Prizes for the winner include a $500 cash prize from IFPO, a $100 cash prize from SPS, and a $300 scholarship toward any IFPO educational offering. The winner will also receive a free lifetime membership to SPS, and will be featured on the cover of the January 2006 “Security Magazine.”

Deadline for nominations is October 15th, 2005. Complete guidelines for the award and the nomination form can be obtained by contacting the IFPO at (239) 430-0533, or they can be downloaded from the IFPO Web site at www.ifpo.org as well as at SPS site at www.securityprofessionalssite.com. The completed forms should be faxed to the IFPO at (239) 430-0533.
