IFPO and SPS to honor Security Officer of the Year

1. All submissions are considered, whether or not the Company or the Officer
are IFPO or SPS Members.
2. Individuals working part-time or full-time in a security capacity, or recently
retired from such a position will be considered.
3. There is no consideration given as to whether the Officer works for a Contract
Guard Company or a Proprietary (In House) Security Department.
4. No minimum education level is required of the candidates, but the Selection
Committee may take into consideration additional security related education
or training when evaluating candidates.
5. The evaluation will be based on the documents submitted. The Selection Committee
will not be responsible for verifying facts or conducting additional investigations
to determine other material information.
6. At the discretion of the Selection Committee, telephone interviews may be
conducted with finalists or their references.
7. When evaluating candidates, the Selection Committee will consider first and
foremost the candidate’s overall performance based on his or her job description.
The Selection Committee will also give consideration to the candidate’s
additional responsibilities and performance over and above those required in
the performance of their job.
8. Candidates need not have performed a “heroic” act, but the Selection
Committee may take into consideration such an act, where the act was not contrary
to the employer’s rules and regulations.
9. Additional consideration will be given to candidates who consistently portray
a positive image to their client, their co-workers, their employer and where
applicable, the public.
10. The Selection Committee may award, in addition to the Security Officer of
the Year, “Honorable Mentions” to those candidates deserving of
special recognition.
11. The Selection Committee reserves the right to give consideration to any
factor not included in these guidelines, if the Selection Committee feels such
factor is relevant, and helps to define the “Security Officer of the Year.”
Restrictions:
1. Candidates cannot include currently commissioned Law Enforcement Officers,
as their deserving work is recognized in other forums.
2. Candidates must not have had their security licenses revoked for cause by
any state or provincial governing body.
3. Candidates must not have been convicted of any felony or indictable offences.
